What is Insurance?

Some variations will allow you to purchase what is called insurance if the dealer has the possibility of getting a blackjack, an ace and face card or 10, on the first hand. The insurance will give you your bet back if the dealer gets a blackjack, but if the dealer does not then the money is lost.

While this is considered an industry setback, the industry considers it an interesting time and many insiders are watching to see if the major sites will grow into even stronger ventures.

The Slow Growth of Addiction

Plenty of people like to hit the local gambling establishment every so often and blow off some steam. After a challenging and frustrating week of work, it can be extremely relaxing to simply get into the zen exercise of repeatedly pulling a handle, or making stress-free conversations involving the words “hit me.” However, just as it’s possible to get too much of any good thing, it’s also possible to get too much gambling and end up having a problem.

While it can start out simply as a way to relieve some stress, a gambling addiction can start to develop after awhile. While the signs might start out subtly at first, they can quickly become quite apparent to people around you. When you keep wanting to play one more game, it starts to get obvious that you need to get some help and find a new hobby. While just about any kind of hobby can ultimately turn self-destructive, gambling is among the worst because its effects aren’t immediately obvious like with most drugs. The effects can be devastating, though.

Consider what can happen when you become addicted to gambling. You start to spend longer and longer at the casino, and more and more of your week becomes taken up with anticipating the euphoria of first walking into the casino. When you start to anticipate your first bet with the same eagerness a teenage guy tends to associate with getting to feel up a girl he’s hot for, that’s when the addiction has really taken hold over your life. There is a tendency among the addiction community to consider a person to either be an addict or completely non-addicted to something. As a general rule, most addiction’s preach that one has to completely abstain from their vice of choice to be considered away from it. They recognize no gray area, because in most cases there is a slippery slope one falls down after that first indulgence. Naturally, every addict is unique, and addiction isn’t always the case.

While the stages of addiction are well documented with regard to drug addicts, gambling addiction is a lot more of a gray area. First off, a drug addict’s addiction tends to be more physically visible to someone on the outside. A gambling addict on the other hand tends to have few to no physical symptoms. The symptoms of a gambling addiction tend to be far more subtle than with other things. So how long does one need to gamble before it becomes a problem? How long must one anticipate the rush of their latest fix before it becomes obvious that they can’t stop?

As a general rule, anything craved more than once in awhile has some addictive properties about it. While a gambling addict will probably not shake or itch like a cocaine addict will, they will tend to become more nervous and jittery if kept away from their vice. If a person feels as if they “need” to go gambling at least every so often, that is the first major sign of a problem developing. In a lot of cases, steering them to a less potentially harmful hobby can derail that train.

How Your Employees Gamble With Your Company

Being a business owner has plenty of stress associated with it. First off, starting from nothing can lead to a lot of fear, including that of outright starvation if it doesn’t work out. However, even once the business is up and running and you feel pretty confident in it, your employees can still sabotage your ultimate success. In a lot of cases, this is even if they have no intention to hurt you or the business. Addiction to gambling is among the causes of this potential problem.

If you call someone into your office and they leave soon thereafter, the stress can trigger them to break down.

In order to help your gambling addicted employee not to gamble away their energies at the casino and neglect your business, you need to allow them the choice to go get treatment without losing pay and benefits. If it’s gotten to the point where their work is seriously suffering, this is the nicest you can be without essentially enabling the problem to continue onward. When it comes time to either shape up or ship out, a person who wants to help you and themselves will take a more gentle option.
